Letter From Chief Robert Irwin , ASVFD

Ables Springs Volunteer Fire Department was created in 1996 to provide emergency services, both fire protection and emergency medical response. ASVFD operates as an IRS not-for-profit 501c3, Texas Corporation, and chartered by the State of Texas as a volunteer fire department and first responder.

Our primary response area includes approximately 45 square miles of N.E. Kaufman County with a population of 5,000 residents.  ASVFD is an all volunteer department and our volunteers are the key to our success and service to the residents who count on a rapid, professional response.  Each year ASVFD responds to over 350 emergency calls, both for fire protection and medical.  In order to operate effectively ASVFD relies on funding from various sources; Kaufman County Emergency Services District #3, donations from area residents, and fund raising events.

To insure an adequate and professional response to emergency situations ASVFD has entered into mutual aid agreements with surrounding fire departments. These mutual aid agreements have the effect of multiplying the resources available to each participating department.  In addition, mutual aid departments conduct cooperative training sessions as well as sending members to professional firefighting schools such as Texas A&M and other accredited schools.  These combined training sessions enable various departments to work efficiently together at an emergency scene.

Our quick response to these calls saved lives and countless dollars of property and I would like to “Thank “ all of the volunteers and families for the dedication that you have put forth.  If you know someone who is an ASVFD volunteer please thank them for their service.  The life-blood of our department is the volunteers.  None of the other resources of the Department would be successful without the dedicated and selfless service to our community by the volunteers.  These men and women answer the call to emergency situations at all hours with unselfish dedication.  We are always looking for volunteers who are willing to be trained and serve the community.  Please contact ASVFD to become a volunteer firefighter.

Prospective firefighters and interested area residents are invited to attend the regular meetings of the Department. A complete schedule of meetings and special events are listed on this website at www.asvfd.org We would appreciate your suggestions for articles or information you would like to see on this website. We appreciate your support; and pledge to serve our community in a dedicated and professional manner.

Sincerely,
Chief
Robert Irwin , ASVFD
